Growing in faith, learning and gratitude.

The past weeks have given us many reasons to be thankful as we continue to witness the children’s growth, their enthusiasm for learning, and the care extended to them through the ministry.

Caring for Our Children Through the Rainy Season

With the arrival of the rainy season and frequent rainfall, Moriel Ministries recognized another important need—the health and well-being of the children. This led to Moriel Give a Gift, an initiative to provide the children with practical items to support them through the wet season.

The children received umbrellas, slippers, vitamins and basic medicines, together with hygiene kits containing face towels, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. The gifts were received with plenty of smiles, but behind each item was a simple and meaningful purpose: to help the children care for themselves, practice good hygiene, and be better equipped during a season when coughs, colds and fever can easily affect their health and attendance.

More than the gifts themselves, this was an expression of care for the whole child. When children are healthy and their basic needs are supported, they are better able to attend school, participate in activities and enjoy the opportunities available to them.

We continue to pray for God’s protection over each child—that they may remain healthy and well throughout the rainy season and continue coming to school and the Saturday programme with happy and eager hearts.

A Saturday of Learning and Growing Together

On 16 August 2026, the children gathered once again for their Saturday class. The session began with prayers led by members of the youth group who also serve as teachers in the programme—a meaningful reminder that our journey of learning is grounded in faith, gratitude and service.

During the Moving-Up Ceremony in May, Teacher Daisy shared with the children the importance of simply showing up. On this Saturday, she revisited that message as the children reflected on how they are now approaching one year of attending the Saturday classes—a milestone worth celebrating and being thankful for.

Learning English Through Everyday Life

For the day’s teaching demonstration, Teacher Daisy introduced a simple egg sandwich-making activity, showing the children that English can be learned not only through books and worksheets, but also through meaningful everyday experiences.

The children discovered that a sandwich does not simply appear as a finished product. It requires ingredients, materials, preparation and a sequence of steps. With eager hands, they peeled the eggs, helped cut and mash them, mixed the ingredients and prepared the sandwich spread.

As they worked, they practiced useful English sequencing and connecting words such as first, next, then and. Because the words were connected to actions they could see and experience, the children were able to use language naturally and with purpose.

There was also learning beyond vocabulary. Waiting for their turns encouraged patience and cooperation, while preparing their own food developed independence and appreciation for the effort and process involved in preparing what we eat. Most importantly, the children were given another opportunity to build confidence in listening, speaking and communicating in English through an experience they could relate to their everyday lives.

Teachers Learning Alongside the Children

The teaching demonstration was not only for the children. It was also an opportunity to support the continuing growth of the teachers who conduct the Saturday classes.

Through the demonstration, the teachers were able to observe how a simple everyday activity could be intentionally transformed into a rich learning experience—combining language, practical life skills, communication and social development within one lesson.

These shared experiences provide opportunities for teachers to reflect on and strengthen their own teaching practices and pedagogy, finding meaningful ways to make learning more hands-on, purposeful and engaging. As the children continue to grow, we are thankful that their teachers are also learning and growing alongside them.

With Thankful Hearts

As we look back on these moments—from caring for the children’s health during the rainy season to another Saturday filled with prayer, learning, laughter and shared experiences—our hearts are filled with gratitude.

Your support reaches beyond the gifts placed in a child’s hands or the lessons shared during a Saturday class. It helps provide for their everyday needs, supports their well-being, creates opportunities for meaningful learning, and reminds them that they are seen, valued, cared for and loved.

Above all, we thank God for His continued faithfulness and for the many ways He continues to provide for these children. We pray for His protection over their health and that the seeds of faith, gratitude, perseverance, kindness and love for learning being planted in their young lives will continue to grow and bear fruit.
